Parents/Caregivers,

TEACHERS ARE AMAZING
It gives me pleasure to offer a heartfelt thank-you to all our wonderful teachers on World Teachers’ Day this Friday. Teachers not only teach the “what”, “how” and “why” but they also pass on values to help your children construct their identity and to be successful and responsible adults in our society.
As the demands of the workplace increase for many families, teachers are playing an even more important role in guiding and shaping the academic, social and emotional development of our children. Teaching is one of the most exciting, demanding and satisfying professions. The challenges of teaching are many, but we know that the rewards of seeing a child’s excitement when they learn to read or their joy when they solve a challenging maths problem are moments to capture and cherish.
I have no doubt that the teachers at our school are passionate, caring, enthusiastic, hard working and inspirational. They deserve all the accolades. It is my firm belief that one day is simply not long enough to celebrate the outstanding work teachers do in our schools. I have decided to allocate the whole week to ensure we truly recognise and celebrate their work. Next week, I encourage you to take the opportunity to celebrate and support the amazing contribution our teachers make at Berrinba East State School.

PARENTING WITH THE BRAIN IN MIND
Welcome to Part 1 of 4 articles that examine how to look after your child’s brain. Research into what kids eat highlights the benefits of proper nutrition while also highlighting alarming issues associated with poor nutrition. The purpose of this series of articles is to provide a brief overview of matters relating to nutrition and the brain.

INDIGENOUS NEWS

Dust Echoes (http://www.abc.net.au/dustechoes/ ) is an educational program based on Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime stories from Central Arnhem Land. Twelve ancient stories are beautifully presented using animated film, music, narration and sounds in creative ways to show varied stories depicting Aboriginal themes. It features Indigenous stories about relationships, Aboriginal law and custom, dangers, origins of country phenomena and Aboriginal spirituality. It is well worth seeing!

FREE DRESS DAY

All students are encouraged to participate in our free dress day on Tuesday, 10th November.

This is a special fundraiser for all the wonderful animals at the Animal Welfare League shelter. Many pets are dumped or abandoned during the Christmas holidays, and there are many more animals to care for during this period than at any other time of the year.

Students can bring either a tin or packet of pet food on the day, or make a gold coin donation to support this charity. We also welcome any additional donations from parents and carers. All items can be left at the school office.
